I am a home-based breeder and do not keep my dogs or puppies in a separate facility or kennel setting. Because of this, I receive many requests to “tour the facility,” which would essentially be a tour of my home.
I understand that prospective puppy families want to see where the puppies are raised and how the dogs are cared for. I maintain a public Facebook page, TerraSassa Frenchies, where I regularly share the daily life of my dogs and my litters.
Because I only have a few litters each year, my puppy area is set up prior to birth and taken down after the puppies go home. Initially, this is in my bedroom and later transitions into my main living space.
Parvo, coccidia, and giardia are significant risks in this area. Preventing exposure to these pathogens is a top priority.
For this reason, foot traffic on the property is limited at all times.
In addition to disease prevention, visits to my home are also carefully managed for safety and security reasons. Unfortunately, theft of dogs following in-home visits has become an increasing concern within the breeding community.
For these reasons, access to my home and puppies is limited and controlled.
Visits are not offered for general browsing or casual viewing.
In the spirit of compromise, I do allow visits by appointment once a pregnancy is confirmed for those on the waiting list for that litter. These visits are intended to allow you to meet me and the dam (and sire, when available).
Visits to puppies themselves are not permitted until they have received their first vaccinations at approximately 8 weeks of age. This helps ensure their immune systems are better developed before direct exposure.
I do my best to accommodate those who wish to visit; however, availability may be limited due to:
veterinary, training, or show commitments
newborn litters still on the premises
young or not fully vaccinated dogs in the program
To protect the health of the puppies, the following precautions are required:
- No other pets may be brought to the visit
- Do not visit pet stores, veterinary offices, breeders, rescues, shelters, groomers, training, or boarding facilities on the same day
- Upon arrival, you will be asked to walk through a shoe bath and wear hospital-grade shoe covers
When weather permits, visits will take place outdoors in the front yard. In inclement weather, we will meet in my camper.
I understand that many families would like to see the puppies prior to placement.
To accommodate this while maintaining health and safety standards, I offer FaceTime or video visits. This allows you to see the puppies, their environment, and interact virtually without introducing unnecessary risk.
Thank you for understanding that these policies are in place to protect the health, safety, and well-being of my puppies.
